Description

A great Margaux wine marked by finesse and complexity

The property
Third Grand Cru Classé in the Official Classification of 1855, Château Palmer is a true star of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. With beginnings in biodynamics initiated in 2009, Château Palmer chose to convert the entire vineyard as of 2014. After building its legend on vintages that have become mythical, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.

The vineyard
Benefiting from an exceptional terroir located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, this Margaux property has a rather unusual grape variety in Médoc, giving pride of place to Merlot, which stands alongside Cabernet Sauvignon in equal proportions (47%) associated with Petit Verdot (6%).

Vinification and aging

The first plot at Château Palmer, a young Merlot vine, is harvested on September 22. The particularly mild weather allows the grapes to be harvested at perfect maturity and without any pressure (botrytis). The 2014 vintage harvest ended on October 14 under a radiant sun. The particularity of this vintage - and which is immediately reflected in the Palmer 2014 - is the choice made not to sulfite the harvest. Thus, the grape immediately expresses its aromatic complexity. The biodynamic approach of this 3rd classified growth of Margaux finally reveals its very conclusive results: diversity and personality of the plots are accurately restored.

Blend

Merlot (45%), Cabernet Sauvignon (49%) and Petit Verdot (6%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Palmer 2014

Tasting

Nose
The wine is of a breathtaking aromatic greediness and freshness. The black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry and red plum) is brilliant and presents a form of tension (freshness) on the nose. The agitation is on the same register.

Palate
The attack on the palate is precise, dynamic before presenting a mid-palate of rare elegance with a tannic weave of a soft, fine, almost cashmere touch. Everything is nuanced. A high-class Château Palmer!
