Description

The elegance and power of a reference from the Margaux appellation

The property

The Château Palmer is a true star of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. With a start in biodynamics in 2009, Château Palmer chose to convert the entire vineyard as early as 2014. After building its legend on vintages that have become mythical, Château Palmer continues to write its history under the direction of the talented Thomas Duroux.

The vineyard

Benefiting from an exceptional Margaux terroir located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, Château Palmer has an unusual grape variety in Médoc, giving pride of place to merlot (47%), which is alongside cabernet sauvignon in equal proportions (47%) associated with petit verdot (6%).

The vintage

The favorable conditions at the beginning of the season lead to the bud break of the vine at the end of February, almost two weeks ahead. The very rainy month of March precedes a wet but mild spring causing significant mildew pressure. The dry and warm conditions in mid-May favor an ideal flowering, suggesting a nice harvest. From June, summer conditions set in for a long time, as evidenced by the veraison triggered at the end of July. The heatwave conditions in August, causing significant water stress, are offset by beneficial storm episodes for the vineyard. If the merlot berries develop quickly, the later cabernets retain their small size. At the end of August, the return to dry weather promotes the concentration of tannins and maturations.

Vinification and aging

The aging in barrels lasts for more than 20 months.

Blend

Merlot (48%), cabernet sauvignon (48%), petit verdot (4%).
