Description
Belargus releases a full-bodied and complex Loire sweet white wine
The estate
The passionate winemaker Ivan Massonnat took over the Pithon-Paillé estate, created by Jo Pithon, in 2018. Located in the Anjou region, Domaine Belargus oversees a 24-hectare vineyard that is managed exclusively using biodynamic methods. Made from carefully selected Grand Crus, lieux-dits or single holdings, these Loire wines throw into the spotlight the richness and minerality of Chenin Blanc.
The vineyard
The 2018 Rouères vintage from Domaine Belargus comes from a Loire vineyard of almost 3 hectares, located on one of the three plots listed in the original decree creating the Quarts-de-Chaume appellation. Exposed on the south-eastern slope of the Quarts-de-Chaume hilltop, this terroir is unique in that its thin soils are underlain by sandstone puddingstone, which accumulates heat during the day and releases it at night.
