Joseph Mellot is the story of a family that has lived on the lands of the Sancerre vineyard since 1513. This family knew how to combine respect for traditional know-how and the audacity of modernity to become today an essential reference for Loire wines and an ambassador for Sancerre wines throughout the world.
A true pioneer, the Joseph Mellot estate was the first French wine estate in the Centre-Loire to cultivate its vines using Sustainable Agriculture. Integrity, respect for the environment, expression of the terroir: such are the strong values of the estate.
Passed down from generation to generation, the family business has been run since 2005 by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot. A passionate winemaker, Catherine Corbeau-Mellot succeeded in carrying forward the quality and the tradition which raise the reputation of the Joseph Mellot house to the forefront of the international scene for Sancerre wines, as it now exports to over 45 countries.
Today, Joseph Mellot operates a vast vineyard, being present in each appellation of the Centre-Loire. Comprising approximately 105 hectares, including 48 in Sancerre and 25 in Pouilly-Fumé and rich in exceptional diversity, the Joseph Mellot vineyard is located in the heart of France's third largest wine region, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Beyond the style, all the wines of the Joseph Mellot estate carry an identity in their own right, retranscribing with elegance, accuracy and authenticity, the typicality of their terroir of origin, so specific to the wines of the Centre-Loire. The house carries out precise and rigorous vinification, selecting the best terroirs to express the uniqueness of each Cru. The most prestigious terroirs are vinified in oak barrels from the region's forests (Saint-Palais and Allogny).
Discovering the Joseph Mellot style means plunging into the history of a house with a centuries-old history, driven by the passion for great terroirs, the men and women working in the vineyard and with the desire to bring out the best of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
