Founded in Saint-Satur in 1850, Domaine Laporte has seen two great, connoisseur Sancerre families, the Laportes and the Bourgeois, succeed one another on its land, giving it its letters of nobility. In 1986, the Bourgeois family acquired the estate, and since then they have helped to elevate each vintage with their generational skillset. Today, a young, experienced and passionate team is working hard to ensure that Domaine Laporte's reputation is up there with the best-known and most appreciated Sancerre estates for lovers of great wines.
The gateway to the Sancerre appellation, Domaine Laporte covers 21 hectares of the Sancerre mosaic of terroirs, planted entirely with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The estate's vineyards boast a geological feature that is rare in the Sancerre region: Le Rochoy, an exclusive 8.5-hectare plot in a single block facing south and south-east, is influenced by clay and flint soil. As a result, this former Gallo-Roman quarry produces wines with fine minerality and great ageing potential.
On the estate's land, the grapes are given special care. Maison Laporte has been certified organic since the 2013 vintage, a certification that is the result of decades of viticulture driven by a deep respect for the land.
In addition to this unique geology and careful attention to its vineyards, Domaine Laporte uses plot-based vinification to produce a wide range of wines that reflect their terroirs. Cuvée Le Rochoy, for example, reflects its flinty soil, while La Comtesses reveals the character of the Kimmeridgian marls of the famous Les Monts Damnés hillside in Chavignol.
Thanks to this careful vinification of the grapes from the vine to the cellar, Laporte wines have established their reputation as great Loire wines for decades on the finest tables in France and abroad.
