Description
A fine and silky great Tuscan wine
The estate
One of the seven pillars of the Frescobaldi family estates, the Frescobaldi - Tenuta Castelgiocondo estate is located south-west of Montalcino. With an exceptional vineyard placed on important terroirs, Castelgiocondo is the creator of great Tuscan red wines.
The vineyard
Lamaione is an IGT Toscana wine that has been produced since 1991 from 21 hectares of vines. Placed at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level, the vineyard, on soils made up of marine clay, faces south-west.
The vintage
The year 2017 was characterised by a relatively mild winter with temperatures slightly above the seasonal average. The spring and summer were quite warm with moderate rainfall, advancing a good development for the growth cycle. The final phase of ripening took place in optimal conditions. The grapes harvested were particularly healthy and of good concentration.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand and carefully selected, the grapes were destemmed, followed by a manual sorting. Fermentation in steel vats at a controlled temperature. Ageing in French oak barrels (80% new) over 24 months then 12 months of additional ageing in bottles before being put on the market.
