Tasting Advice for Brunello di Montalcino 2018 Poggio di Sotto

Tasting

Nose
Red and black fruit aromas, accompanied by floral notes of violet and citrus. Nuances of tobacco, coffee, cocoa, and leather enrich the bouquet.

Palate
The structure is remarkable with silky tannins. The attack is vertical and the finish intriguing, supported by a beautiful acidity.

A Brunello di Montalcino of rare elegance signed by Poggio di Sotto

The property

Founded in 1989, Poggio di Sotto is a prestigious estate located in Montalcino in Tuscany. The 44-hectare estate, of which 16 are dedicated to brunello, stretches over hillsides between 200 and 400 meters in altitude. Known for its old sangiovese, some over 50 years old, Poggio di Sotto embodies a philosophy respectful of the terroir, producing complex and elegant wines.

The vineyard

The sangiovese vines, aged 20 to 25 years on average, are planted between 200 and 400 meters in altitude. The soils vary according to altitude: the upper parts are rich in gravel, ferrous minerals and organic matter, while the lower areas are characterized by the presence of white and gray clays, galestro and loamy sections.

The vintage

2018 was marked by a cool and rainy season in Tuscany. The harvest took place from September 12 to October 4, in several passes according to the maturity of the plots. The grapes were meticulously hand-selected.

Vinification and aging

Vinification takes place in truncated wooden vats and concrete vats for at least one month, with frequent pumping over. Aging continues for 30 months in 30-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels.

Blend

100% sangiovese.
