Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Poggio di Sotto's Brunello di Montalcino 2020

Tasting

Its aromatic profile combines notes of small red and black fruits and floral nuances such as violet. The prolonged aging in the barrel reveals evolved aromas of tobacco, coffee, cocoa, and leather, which add depth and complexity to this great Tuscan wine. The finish promises a beautiful evolution over time, a sign of exceptional aging potential.

Service

To fully appreciate this Brunello di Montalcino, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. It is advisable to decant it one hour before serving to allow the aromas to open and the tannins to soften.

Pairings

This powerful and elegant red wine will pair perfectly with red meat dishes in sauce, game, mature cheeses, or even spicy dishes from Italian cuisine.

A great Tuscan red wine from an exceptional terroir

The estate

The Poggio di Sotto estate is located in the Montalcino region of Tuscany and extends over 30 hectares of vineyards. Founded in 1989 by Piero Palmucci and Giorgio Bolla, the estate is now recognized as one of the most prestigious producers of Brunello di Montalcino.

The vineyard

The vines are cultivated using organic and biodynamic farming, respecting the environment and biodiversity. The soils are mainly composed of pebbles and clay, giving these Italian wines a great finesse and a beautiful minerality.

Vinification and aging

The grapes are hand-picked, then sorted and destemmed before being vinified in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. The alcoholic fermentation is followed by a maceration of about three weeks, in order to extract the tannins and the aromas from the grape. This Brunello di Montalcino wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 36 months, then in the bottle for at least 6 months before its commercialization.
