Description
The richness of a velvety and spicy Chianti Classico
The estate
In the heart of Tuscany, nestled between the green hills of Chianti and the magnificent panorama of the Crete Senesi, lies an unmissable reference point on the Italian scene: the San Felice Estate. A true historical monument, the bishops of Arezzo and Siena were already fighting over the famous Tuscan vineyard in 714. Today, with over 150 hectares of vineyards, the legend continues thanks to the estate's unique philosophy: a quest for excellence and continuous improvement.
San Felice is also a great diversity of terroirs spread over three of Tuscany's leading appellations: Chianti Classico, Montalcino and Bolgheri. For decades, this estate has succeeded in maintaining the perfect balance between tradition and renewal, a signature that can be found at the heart of their creations.
The vineyard
This 2019 Chianti Classico Grigio Gran Selezione comes from vineyards located in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, within the province of Siena. The vines are planted on limestone soils, composed of alberese and galestro rocks.
Winemaking and ageing
Following a meticulous selection process, only the best grapes are used in the production of this Chianti Classico.
The 2019 Chianti Classico Grigio Gran Selezione is aged in oak barrels for 24 months (50% in large Slavonian oak tuns and 50% in 225 or 500 litre French oak barrels). Once bottled, the wine is aged for a further 8 months before being released on the market.
Blend
Sangiovese (80%)
Native grape varieties (20%)
A multitude of indigenous grape varieties complement the finesse of the Sangiovese in this Chianti Classico. Abrusco, Pugnitello, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Mazzese: these endemic grapes from the Vitarium of San Felice leave an authentic mark on the heart of this unique wine.
