Description
The depth and aromatic richness of a Conero red wine by Umani Ronchi
The estate
Located in the Marche region in eastern Italy, the Umani Ronchi estate cultivates 210 hectares of vineyards, practising biological agriculture. It is renowned for being one of the major estates in the Verdicchio dei Castelli Jesi appellation.
The vineyard
The Campo San Giorgio Riserva 2018 d’Umani Ronchi is a Conero wine stemming from a vineyard where the vines are on average 15 years old, facing east-west at 150 metres of altitude. The soil, dating from the marine formations of the Plio-Pleistocene era, is deep, silty and very calcareous.
The wine
This Marche wine takes its name from its plot in the village of Osimo, Campo San Giorgio, which has distinguished itself, vintage after vintage, for its expressiveness and unique identity. The label was hand-drawn in India ink, emphasising how this wine is the result of extensive research and experimentation.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest done by hand, the grapes were destemmed, leaving a small, variable percentage of whole bunches. Fermentation without treading took place in steel vats, at a controlled temperature of between 28°C and 30°C, with indigenous yeasts, over a period of 14-16 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged in small casks over 12 months, then in large vats for an additional 12 months. The wine did not undergo clarification or filtration. Once bottled, the Campo San Giorgio wine was cellared for 8-10 months before being put on the market.
