Located in the Marche region, in eastern Italy, Domaine Umani Ronchi is now one of the 18 largest Italian wine families alongside such producers as Antinori, Sassicaia and Masi.
It is near the town of Cupramontana, historic heart of the Verdicchio Classico, that the Umani Ronchi venture began more than 60 years ago. Although he initially created a small farm in the Marche region, Gino Umani Ronchi was later joined by Roberto Bianchi, a building contractor with a passion for agriculture, and his son-in-law Massimo Bernetti. A few years later, the Bianchi-Bernetti family took over the property and gave it a decisive turn.
On January 4, 1968, the property was incorporated as a winery and, a year later, the administrative headquarters were transferred to Osimo. During this period, the estate developed, through the opening of a winery in Osimo for the production of Rosso Conero and the expansion of the Castelbellino winery, used for the production of the Verdicchio dei Castelli Jesi cuvées.
Massimo Bernetti also left his mark on the expansion of the estate. As he increased the area of his vineyard, which gradually extended to more than 200 hectares between Marche and Abruzzo, Massimo Bernetti developed the reputation of the estate's wines abroad, by exporting his cuvées in particular to Germany and the United Kingdom.
Today his son, Michele, at the head of an internationally recognised domain continues to innovate. In 2000, he opened a new ageing cellar, La Bottaia, an architectural and cultural project that is part of a broader plan to restructure the Osimo cellar. With his technical team, he also creates new cuvées while providing meticulous care to the already existing range.
Umani Ronchi is also very sensitive to sustainable development as well as the promotion of local artisanal production. Since its beginnings, Umani Ronchi has chosen to revalorise traditional grape varieties from the Adriatic coast such as Verdicchio, Rosso Conero and Montepulciano. Today, the estate cultivates 210 hectares of vineyards in organic farming, with deep respect for its terroir and people.
Umani Ronchi is at the origin of emblematic cuvées, between respect for tradition and innovation, illustrating all the typicality of the great wines of Marche.
