Description
A great rosé Champagne with an innovative design
The estate
The Perrier-Jouët Champagne House was founded in 1811 by Pierre Perrier and his wife Adèle Jouët. Produced from the exceptional terroirs of Champagne (Aÿ, Mailly-Champagne, Avize and Cramant), the house's cuvées are renowned for their singular style combining aromatic richness, refinement and subtlety. From 1861 onwards, Perrier-Jouët became the official champagne of Queen Victoria, then that of the French Imperial Court.
Owned since 1959 by the Champagne company GH Mumm, Perrier-Jouët's uniqueness lies in the iconic bottle of the prestige cuvée "Belle Epoque", designed in 1969 by Emile Gallé.
The wine
Developed only in the great vintages, Belle Époque Rosé from Perrier-Jouët is a lively and refined expression of the great terroirs of Champagne, namely for Chardonnay (Cramant, Aÿ, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger) and Pinot Noir (Ambonnay, Mailly and Verzy as well as Pinot Meunier from Dizy and Venteuil).
The packaging
The translucent design of Perrier-Jouët's Belle Époque Rosé Édition Luminous 2010 bottle accentuates, by backlighting the white Japanese anemone, a motif created for the house in 1902 by Émile Gallé, an Art Nouveau master.
The vintage
A cold and dry winter came before a mild spring where the frosts did not impact the estate’s vineyards. Particularly hot, the beginning of summer saw irregular rainy spells. The month of August had cold, dull weather, but the hot and dry conditions of September were perfect for the grapes to reach full ripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand. Alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats followed by malolactic fermentation. Red vinification of a small proportion of Pinot noir, through maceration of the clear juices of the Pinot noirs with their skins. This vintage Brut Champagne, with a dosage of 8 g/litre, was aged for a minimum of 6 years in the chalky cellars of the house.
Blend
Chardonnay (50%)
Pinot noir (45%)
Pinot meunier (5%).
