Description
A balanced and precise Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé
The estate
On the right bank of Bordeaux, where most of estates do not exceed 10 hectares, Troplong Mondot boasts one of the largest estates in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Founded in 1700, the Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Troplong Mondot produces one of the most beloved wines of Saint-Emilion.
The vineyard
Planted at an altitude of 110 meters, the Château Troplong Mondot vineyard covers 43 hectares in one piece. The vineyard is entirely managed by sustainable viticulture. The vines, aged 30 years on average, are planted in clay-limestone soils typical of the Saint-Emilion appellation.
The vintage
A generally mild winter was followed by a fairly cool spring and then a scorching summer. The Troplong Mondot terroir has enabled the vines to withstand the onslaught of major heat waves. The harvest at Château Troplong Mondot started early on September 10, yielding grapes with a fantastic balance between power, richness and freshness.
The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Troplong Mondot 2019 displays a superb balance and great precision. The complexity and persistence characterising the signature style of Château Troplong Mondot are very much present. This great vintage ending in 9 is certainly destined to be one of the historical vintages of the estate.
