The property
Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation. Today, a continuous search for excellence, a beautiful harmony with nature, a rigorous and unwavering dedication make the Spanish estate a prestigious reference. Over the years, other vineyards like Pintia have come to embrace and magnify Vega Sicilia's philosophy. Thus, the extreme care given to the vines as well as to the winemaking process results in great Spanish wines that come from unique lands.
The vineyard
Bordering the Duero River, the 210 hectares of vineyards are divided into three grape varieties: tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. 140 hectares of this production are reserved for the production of Valbuena and Unico while the rest is intended for the conception of Alión. This wine is made from vines averaging 33 years old, resting between 700 and 900 meters altitude on a sandy-clay soil.
The wine
Valbuena 5 Ano from Vega Sicilia is a Ribera del Duero wine whose name comes from its long aging phase of five years.
Vinification and aging
The Valbuena 5° 2020 benefits from a complex and meticulous aging process: 12 months in barrels, followed by 12 months in tanks, then 6 months in stainless steel, before finishing with 18 months of maturation in the bottle. This progressive and patient aging method allows the wine to develop its complexity while preserving its freshness.
